Staying in Shanklin this Summer? Here’s all you need to know:

Here at The Clifton, we love our Shanklin location. We love being such a strong part of this traditional, historic seaside resort – just a stone’s throw away from the beautiful golden sands of Shanklin beach and right in the heart of it all.
If you’re staying with us this summer, and want to know what there is to do, see, hear, eat and enjoy – our staff are always on hand to help. We’ve also created a handy guide here, for you to take a look at before you arrive.

What can I do in Shanklin?
We’d wonder, more so, what you can’t do in Shanklin. However old or young you are, whatever type of holiday or attraction you’re looking for, Shanklin certainly won’t disappoint. Alongside the traditional tourist activities and destinations on offer in Shanklin – such as the beach and the stunning Shanklin Chine – there are a range of other things to do in the town that you might enjoy.

You could spend an afternoon taking a stroll down the Esplanade to play some of the games and amusements on offer, or if you’d prefer to simply soak up some of the sun in a tranquil garden, you’re able to visit the beautiful Rylstone Gardens to do just that.
We also know that a trip to Shanklin truly would be wasted without a visit to the Shanklin Old Village – complete with thatched cottages, a set of unique cafes, shops and other independent businesses for you to sample, try and enjoy.

Eating Out in Shanklin
One thing that Shanklin is not short of is food. If you’re looking for places to eat, you can look no further than The Clifton’s Bar & Cafe Menu. The menu features a wide range of refreshments including freshly made coffees, speciality teas, delicious cream teas, sandwiches, basket meals, all offered with a superb choice of wines, a range Isle of Wight Ales & an extensive Gin Menu.

The Old Village offers a range of options for the hungry traveller, from traditional pub grub to more formal dining in the wonderful setting of thatched cottages, whilst many bars on the esplanade offer meals with live music most evenings.

Events in Shanklin
Shanklin’s Theatre always comprises a programme of interesting shows and events for visitors to the town – but that’s not all. There are Carnivals every year, including the magnificent Shanklin Illuminated Carnival (Saturday 4th August 2018), providing a beautiful spectacle all through the town with a cheerful atmosphere and plenty to see and do.

There’s also the Shanklin Regatta (Thursday 9th August 2018) which has now been running for over 161 years. Here at The Clifton we love attending the Shanklin Regatta and do thoroughly recommend it to all of our visitors – guests and diners alike. The water-sports focused day always provides a great deal of competition, excitement and activity – and rounds off with a beach BBQ, live music and a stellar fireworks show.

Whatever you’d like to see or do when on the Isle of Wight for your holiday or break, Shanklin is bound to hold many of the attractions, events and eateries that you’re looking for. Enjoy the town as a base when staying at The Clifton, and never be more than a short walk away from all of the action and excitement.
