Help the Clifton save lives.
Here at the Clifton, we have set up a GoFundMe page https://www.gofundme.com/f/m9zmbj-raising-funds-for-a-defibrillator to help raise money for a defibrillator, to be set up on our decking. Through collection pots and fundraising, we hope to have this life-saving machine as soon as possible- should it ever be needed.
We are eager to make the Clifton the safest and most comfortable place as it can be and to bring peace of mind to our guests, staff, and community so they can enjoy their holiday and feel cared for at all times.
Here are some facts about defibrillators,
- Did you know defibrillators have a 90% success rate at 10 minutes and a 50% rate at 14 minutes.
- AED usage within the first three minutes of SCA can increase survival rates by over 80%.
- In 2019 alone, 4 million people were living with heart and circulatory diseases alone. An increase in defibrillators across the country has thankfully meant more lives are being saved. According to the British Heart Foundation, less than 1 in 10 people survive a sudden cardiac arrest.
These are just a few advantages of having a defibrillator, a cardiologist has called for defibrillators to be placed in all public buildings in a bid to improve the low survival rates for heart attack victims.
Campaigners including leading doctors, health experts, and MPs have written to the prime minister asking him to consider changing the law to make the life-saving machines compulsory in every community.
Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, to anyone at any time that is why we are making the defibrillator available to all of the thousands of walkers we get along the coastal path by putting it outside on our decking it will be easily assessable to anyone.
We have decided to set up this GoFundMe page to ask our beautiful community for help in purchasing this amazing machine, defibrillators can cost between £750 to £1,300 each. For some communities, this is a cost they simply can’t afford.
Once the money is raised we will be ordering this incredible machine and giving our staff training to guarantee no matter who’s on shift they will know exactly what to do in case of an emergency.
There was a story I read on survivor’s stories, https://theoliverkingfoundation.co.uk/ (this is a fantastic website on how truly amazing these machines can be) which makes you realise without these machines so many precious lives would be lost. A cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, any age, just like it happened to 10-year-old Shaun;
“Sarah – I am a step mum to a beautiful 10-year-old boy Shaun, on 9th January 2018 at 1.20 pm he suffered a cardiac arrest, and the response from his school was lifesaving!! They recognized straight away what was happening and what they needed to do, two members of staff started CPR and within seconds another had got the defibrillator next to them and it was on Shaun. Now the defibrillator told them not to shock him but thanks to the work they do, they knew exactly what to do and because of that, they saved Shaun’s life. We will never be able to thank them for not just saving Shaun’s life but for also saving Shaun’s quality of life. We also wanted to thank you for everything you do to raise awareness of this because thanks to you the school knew and understood what to do.”
There are thousands of stories like Sarah’s that prove defibrillators are worth the money, I mean you can’t put a price on life right?
