Better late than never…..

After an extended winter break, we elatedly look forward to unlocking our doors and welcoming back the many eager guests searching for that much needed escape from lockdown. With 2021 being the year of the “Staycation” we think you’ll agree that the Isle of Wight is the ideal place to getaway, with fresh air, beautiful scenery, outstanding beaches and much needed sunshine, in fact, the Isle of Wight sees more sunshine than nearly any other region in the UK, even others on the south coast of England.
Here at the Clifton, we used the extra time the break provided to make sure your 2021 staycation really is the best you can get, and leave you wondering why you ever went abroad – we’re sure that once you stay you’ll return to join us on this garden isle again and again.

So what has kept us so busy you may ask?  Let us tell you.

As lockdown has seen many of us turn to tech, with tablets and phones becoming a lifeline, a portal to the outside world, a window to speak to loved ones and a new way to shop, the Clifton team realised that even as we return to more relaxed times, many have embraced their digital freedom and that the tech is here to stay. Then we thought “how can we help?” after all it’s a question we frequently ask our guests, well during your stay our team are always ready and eager to assist you plan your day, from attractions to visit and how to get there without getting lost, to what the weather will be. But you can’t put our receptionists in your pocket and take them with you on your explorations, can you? Well now you can with our NEW VAMOOS CLIFTON TRAVEL APP. Which features:

• TOURIST INFORMATION – Our carefully compiled tourist information,
highlighting the top attractions and places of interest, ideal for checking opening times, amenities etc.
• MAPS – Never get lost! Our custom map has been designed to help you
explore the best the Island has to offer.
• WEATHER – “Flip-flops or wellies”? Our local 5-day weather forecast can
help you plan your Island adventure perfectly.
• GUEST DIRECTORY – All of the information you may need, with menus and much
more at your fingertips even before you check in.
• MESSAGING – Have a request? Need to ask a question? Message us directly
from the app, you can even pre-order your prosecco.
• DO NOT DISTURB – Had a late night? Want a lay in? Let our Housekeeping
team know from the comfort of your bed.
• PLUS – Future booking feature, vouchers, special offers and more.

We have also improved our guest Wi-Fi system, with more powerful access points and simplified login, upgraded the TV’s in our new standard deluxe rooms to 43’ Smart TV’s and our team has worked together with local website experts Pepper Creative to make booking online directly through our own website even simpler (although you can still just give us a ring if you prefer).

For those wishing to get away from tech don’t worry, our amazing gardener Terri has been very busy making sure our multi-award winning environmentally friendly garden is ready and looking spectacular for your arrival…Terri’s environmental planting has led to some amazing blooms, with plants you may only see flower at the Ventnor Botanical Gardens or even the Mediterranean. Terri has now created bug hotels throughout our garden, and Denis has been installing bird feeders to complement the red squirrel feeder. This has meant that our garden is alive with various feathered friends – Denis even hand-feeds a blackbird called Mister!. The garden is probably looking the best it has ever done since the Clifton Hotel was first built in 1860!

After completing our new standard deluxe rooms, David and Carys have kept the momentum rolling with a complete redecoration of one of our highly sought after bay view rooms, whist Zoe our much-coveted receptionist and interior decorator has been busy refreshing rooms throughout, including room 11 our smallest but very popular standard double which now has a new brighter colour scheme to reflect the wonderful views that can be enjoyed from its private outside bench. Meanwhile, Carys has become a very accomplished upholsterer during lockdown and has turned her attention to many of the tub chairs in our rooms giving them a new life that really reflects the boutique nature of the Clifton.
We are very happy to report to our returning guests that most of our team have returned to join us in 2021, Denis and Zoe (we’re pretty sure they class as fixtures & fittings now) are looking forward to welcoming you back as well as greeting our new guests, Glenys who joined us as a waitress last season and really shone with her customer service will be joining them on reception, Sophie the weekend breakfast whiz-kid has her order pad ready anticipating your arrival. And Claire the very chatty housekeeper is currently in deep cleaning mode, getting every room ready for your arrival and ensuring they remain Covid-19 safe throughout the season.

Last season we also saw the arrival of a new breakfast cook Phil who really impressed, and working with Carys together they earned us the prestigious Visit England Breakfast Award for the second year running, which is no small achievement, you have to be in the top 5% to even be considered! So by popular demand, we are really pleased to welcome him back as a permanent member of the Clifton team, but don’t be surprised if you see him wandering about after breakfast in different overalls, it turns out he’s an exceptional handyman as well.
