5 Reasons a British Summertime holiday beats those abroad

Monday 23rd May 2016

When it comes to planning the perfect summer holiday destination, there’s usually some sort of decision to be made between staying at home in the UK (having a ‘staycation’ so to speak) or jetting off abroad. There are arguments for both, but here at The Clifton we think that a UK staycation wins every time!

Take a look at our five reasons for staying in the UK, and perhaps visiting the Isle of Wight, this summer.

The UK has beautiful beaches
One of the most common reasons that people in the UK decide to go abroad is to experience the sights and sounds of foreign beaches, but we think that they’re missing some pretty wonderful ones here on English soil. The UK has some of the world’s best and award winning beaches, and in The Isle of Wight’s surrounding beaches received the highest number of Keep Britain Tidy awards, taking home four Blue Flags and 13 Seaside Awards – making it the perfect spot for finding a fabulous beach without the air time.

It’s full of history
When it comes to looking at holidaying in the UK, many people forget to feature it’s rich history. You don’t need to travel all the way to Rome to get a taste of culture and historical sights – it’s all around you in the UK in some favourite holiday destinations. The Isle of Wight itself has plenty of old fashioned villages to look at (we’re situated right next to one, in fact!), museums to explore, castles to marvel at and even houses of monarchs to experience.

We have the best festivals
If you’re less interested in visiting museums and more interested in getting muddy in a field with a soundtrack of current artists in the background – look no further. A good portion of the world’s biggest festivals are held in the UK: think Glastonbury, Bestival, Isle of Wight Festival and more. Save on travel and attend some of these UK based festivals during the summer – bring your wellies and be prepared for a weekend of joy.

For those uninterested in the music scene, there’s not only music festivals but literature festivals, food festivals, film festivals, flower festivals and more, ensuring that there’s one to suit people of all tastes.

The quirky pubs
No matter where you go in the world, we don’t think you’ll beat a traditional English country pub when it comes to stopping somewhere for a drink and a bite to eat. Generally situated in old buildings with traditional finishes and large stone fireplaces, or large beer gardens, it’s really the perfect place to grab a pint and brave the winter or watch the summertime go by.

We have wonderful food
You can’t deny the charm of enjoying a portion of freshly battered fish and chips by the English seaside, or enjoying a meal of classic British favourites in a bistro like ours! Whilst there’s something to be said about enjoying pasta in Italy or paella in Spain, dipping into the UK’s culture and enjoying some classic British cuisine in on a classic British holiday is a different experience all together – and one that holiday makers shouldn’t rule out this year.

Are you thinking of leaving the UK for your holiday this year, or are you going to stay? We’d love to know your reasons why – and we’d love to have you, if you’re looking at an Isle of Wight holiday. Get in touch with us here to find out all you need to know.
