About Us

The Clifton is owned and operated by David and Carys who have over thirty years experience in hospitality. As well as an array of bars and restaurants they recently owned and managed a three star Best Western Hotel with a rosetted restaurant - so you can be confident of an enjoyable and relaxing stay.

History

The Clifton was built in the late 19th century as a 'Gentlemans Residence' when Shanklin was a booming Victorian Spa resort, however we have a picture of The Clifton from 1913 when it seemed to be letting accommodation, and certainly know that in 1921 it was being run as a boarding house by a Mrs Clark and her two daughters. Later additions include the conservatory with views across the garden and out to sea.
